LAIN launches new ‘Curious about Climate’ training to upskill thousands across the city to help tackle climate change
A new online training course that aims to improve climate literacy skills for thousands of Londoners from the boardroom to the frontline has launched, designed to put climate protection at the heart of business decision-making and delivery.
The ‘Curious about Climate’ e-learning has been commissioned by LAIN (London Anchor Institutions’ Network), backed by the Mayor of London, and developed by LAIN member, the London Fire Brigade’s training provider Babcock International with climate experts across the city.
The training is part of LAIN’s commitment to tackling climate change, through major organisations working together across the city, using their workforce, procurement and estates to drive positive social, economic and environmental change. The training will be completed by staff across the LAIN network working for organisations such as London Fire Brigade, Capital City College Group and University of London.
Natalie Isaac, Head of Sustainability at University of London and Chair of LAIN’s Climate Leadership Working Group, said: “I’m incredibly proud to see this training come to life and I want to thank everyone involved in its development. By educating ourselves and others, we can play our part in tackling the climate crisis together.”
This introductory training course is designed to help learners:
Understand the basics of climate science
Grasp the urgency of climate action
Explore the biggest climate risks facing London, and how we can respond
Discover practical actions that individuals and institutions can take to make a difference
The e-module takes around 2-3 hours to complete and comes with a digital handbook so that learners can record notes and two climate pledges once they have completed the training.
It is free and available to any organisation that requests it, including organisations that are not currently LAIN members. Users will be expected to report back on how many of their staff complete the training.
Organisations that want access to the free training course should email anchors@london.gov.uk
At the most recent C40 Cities World Mayors Summit in Rio (November 2025), in his opening plenary speech, Mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, called on city leaders around the world to rise to the challenge of tackling climate change; “Our task will be tough, it should be, but if we stay united and if we stay relentless, we will feel that joy for future generations and for our planet,” he said.
In just four years, LAIN’s focus on addressing the climate emergency as has resulted in:
12,500+ employees trained in carbon literacy and environmental sustainability
Over £186m+ tonnes of CO2e reduced - equivalent to the electricity consumption of 350,000 average households for a year
£200m+ of funding and financing secured to invest in decarbonisation projects across the city
